CodeCampMumbai – frm ThoughtsDecoded blog

Kurund has an interesting blog post and pictures on the ThoughtsDecoded blog (Web Access blog).

Looking forward for others to share their experience of the CodeCampMumbai.

Jaagte raho ;)

I am here at the CodeCampMumbai and we are hitting our keyboards real hard at this time in the night. It’s 8 of us here still remaining and the enthusiasm is contagious. Me and Pavan are sitting in the balcony with our laptops while Deepak, Kurund, Ankur, Fenil, Latesh and Varun are sitting inside. It’s chilly out here and you have the balmy breeze making us feel comfortable all the time. We can hear birds chirping even at this time in the night.

It feels sublime and I feel I should enjoy the moment and the code and not blog about it now 😉

Thanks Latesh to set it up quickly.

CiviCRM becomes the main sponsor for CodeCampMumbai

CiviCRM

Many thanks to the CiviCRM team to come forward and become the main sponsor for CodeCampMumbai.

For the uninitiated CiviCRM is an open source and freely downloadable CRM solution designed specifically to meet the needs of advocacy, non-profit and non-governmental groups. I had stumbled upon it while researching for SocialSync. The thing I was most impressed was integration with drupal and joomla.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kurund Jalmi from the CiviCRM team to take initiative and finalize the sponsorship.

Sponsorship updates…?

We must say we have received fairly good response from people who we had sent sponsorship proposals. Apart from them some have also voluntarily asked if they could sponsor the event.

We thank you all for spreading the word and pitching in to sponsor the event. We really appreciate your gesture.

By today night 9:00pm we would be announcing our Title Sponsor. Still another 6 hours to go. The countdown begins 😉

Akshay

Ma, look whos talking about us ;)

I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I googled (read blogsearch.google.com) for CodeCampMumbai and found this link:

http://in.blognation.com/2007/11/07/24-hour-coding-marathon-at-codecampmumbai-on-17-november/

Mumbai, traditionally the commercial and film capital of India, is fast catching up on the tech scnene. Quick on the heels of BarCampMumbai is a straight 24 hour Day & Night coding marathon that takes place at Indian Institute of Technology, easily one of the best engineering institutes in India.

CodeCampMumbai caters to the community of CodeCampers, bound by the “culture” of Hackathons and is based upon “open participative and collaborative” nature of BarCamps. The event seems to be an immediate inspiration from the Yahoo! Hackday that took place in Bangalore a few weeks ago.

At CodeCampMumbai, coders team with other like minded folks and collaborate on a project. The idea is to come out with something substantial within the 24 hour time frame.

The Wiki already has interesting project ideas like Androik SDK App, Making a digital newspaper based on RSS feeds and a Google map API that shows interesting events in Mumabi.

All I can say, “Thanks Kiruba for those good words of encouragement.”

🙂

We are now open for Sponsorship!

Yes, we are now officially open for sponsorship.

I must say we have been very selective with who we approach. In the last two days we have sent a handful of sponsorship proposals and we have received positive response from all of them.

Like I said, we are being selective because we want to be in a win-win situation for us as well as the sponsors. We would like to have a sponsor who aligns well with the CodeCampMumbai manifesto.

Here is the sponsorship document: CodeCampMumbai – Sponsorship Document

We love innovation and are always game for innovative forms of sponsorship 😉

CodeCampMumbai – How it all began?

[FlashBack-Cut-1] Little less than a month back Ankur and me had a couple of mail exchanges over how we should try and bring the hacker/developer community together.

[FlashBack-Cut-2] During the closing session of BarCampMumbai2 there were some participants who were not satisfied with the technical depth of the sessions at the BarCamp. I took this opportunity and quickly created a simple CodeCampMumbai page on the barcamp wiki and announced the event on the stage.

[Present-Cut-3] Thus, emerged CodeCampMumbai and a format which is heavily influenced by some popular philosophies.

Here is what we have taken from other popular manifestos/cultures:

CodeCamps:

By and For the Developer Community
No Fluff – only Code
Read more: CodeCamp Manifesto

Hackathons:

Race against time (24 hours)
Do something cool/complex/brainy
Read more here, here and here.

BarCamps:

Share and learn in a open environment
No Spectators. Only Participants.
Read more here.

In short:
CodeCampMumbai caters to the community of CodeCampers, bound by the culture of Hackathons and is based upon open participative and collaborative nature of BarCamps.
